Doug Nachman

Chairman Emeritus, Financial Advisor

Doug Nachman has worked in the financial services industry since 1989, and he has always strived to place his clients’ interests first and foremost. Doug helps his clients create and grow their wealth, protect and preserve that wealth, and finally, help them plan for the distribution of those assets in a manner that is efficient and saves on taxes. He earned a BS in Business Administration from Indiana University, and he holds the Series 7, 24, and 65 Securities Licenses.

Doug’s time with Smith Moore spans more than two decades, and he shares with the company the philosophy of providing excellent customer service with a personal touch, making the firm a perfect match for him. In 1992, Doug was elected to Smith Moore’s Board of Directors, and he was named Vice Chairman of the company three years later. In 2000, he was named CEO and Chairman of the Board. However, Doug has since relinquished these management titles in order to spend more time working with his clients.

Since the inception of Smith Moore in 1913, the company has maintained its focus on its mission of dedication to customer service. Tim Schulte has worked in the financial services industry since 1991, and Smith Moore’s exceptional customer service has been constant during his time here.

Tim earned a BS in Business Administration from Quincy University, and he holds the Series 4, 7, 24, 63, and 66. He is a graduate of The Securities Industry Institute sponsored by The Wharton School of Business.

As a financial advisor with over two decades of experience helping clients, Jim Deutsch views himself as a holistic financial planner who creates plans to help clients achieve their life goals. By leveraging his extensive financial services experience and a network of competent teammates (including attorneys, CPAs, and insurance professionals), he helps his clients answer any financial concerns or questions they may have. Jim is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®). He graduated from the University of Missouri – Columbia with a B.S. in Consumer and Family Economics, and he earned a Master’s Degree in Finance from Webster University. In addition, Jim is a graduate of the Securities Industry Institute at Wharton School of Business.

As President and CEO of Smith Moore, Jim leverages more than 22 years of industry experience and a significant record of results in organizational development, process improvement, audit performance, portfolio management, and compliance and client service. He is a bold, decisive leader with an unblemished reputation, a strong work ethic and a passion to improve performance at all levels of the organization. Jim re-energized the organization and raised business standards by terminating weak leadership and hiring new talent; consolidating two St. Louis offices into one central, prestigious location; driving technology utilization/improvements; tightening financial controls while always striving to ensure regulatory compliance. Jim became a shareholder in 1999, a member of the Board of Directors in 2001, and President and CEO in 2003. Under Jim’s leadership, the firm has grown revenues each year and increased its assets under management from $400 million to over $2.5 billion. During Jim’s tenure, the firm has expanded its footprint, with nine branch offices in Missouri, Illinois, and Kansas. Jim also manages a book of business with over $100 million in assets.

Jim was a 2008 recipient of the St. Louis Business Journal’s prestigious “Forty under 40” award. Not only does Jim serve on the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) Private Client Group, he is also involved with the St. Louis Regional Chamber & Growth Association Committee (RCGA), serves on the Advisory Board for the Personal Financial Planning Department at the University of Missouri – Columbia and the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Covenant Place, and he is Co-Chair of the 2016 St. Louis Delegation for Maccabi Games and the Jewish Federation of St. Louis, Standards & Capacity Committee. Jim is also one of 20 participants from St. Louis in the Wexner Heritage program, which promotes leadership and Jewish study.

Christi Hake

Christi Hake brings over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry to Smith Moore. She currently holds a Series 7, 24, 63, and 65, licenses, as well as a Life, and Health insurance license. Christi joined Smith Moore on December 21, 2018. Prior to joining Smith Moore, Christi was the managing principal and founder of Wealth Management Partners (WMP), LLC. Prior to WMP, Christi worked at Waddell and Reed, Edward Jones, Hancock Securities Group, Irwin Union Bank, Smith Barney and Mercantile Bank in various roles as: District Branch Manager, Branch Manager, Financial Advisor, Trust Officer, Private Banker, Human Resource Specialist and Recruiter.

Christi had always admired the enduring strength and stability of Smtih Moore, its well-deserved reputation for outstanding client service, tight-knit and welcoming team environment. She also liked the smaller regional feel along with Smith Moore’s roots dating back to 1913, and the fact that Smith Moore is a full-service firm.

Since joining Smith Moore, Christi has helped increase the Jefferson City office gross revenue by 28% year over year and was intimately involved with the hiring of two financial advisors and helping to increase the company exposure by getting Smith Moore’s name out into the community.

Christi hopes to assist the board in bringing fresh eyes and perspective, outside experience, high energy along with a relational focused style. Her prior expertise in management, recruiting, training, and growing a practice will help to take Smith Moore into the future.

Christi graduated from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, IL, where she earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Marketing and Business Management an MBA from Webster University.

Christi is married to her husband Darrell and has two children. Brianna is a nurse in Columbia, Mo., and Ryan is a student at Truman University studying Finance and Accounting. Christi enjoys spending time with her family, music, reading, working out, boating, water skiing and wake boarding.

Having worked in banking and financial services for over 25 years, Randall Rhyner can assist his clients with all aspects of their financial lives. In addition to asset management, Randy reviews liabilities, risk management, and estate plans. He emphasizes long-term, risk-appropriate wealth management strategies to grow and preserve clients’ wealth to meet their goals.

Randy graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a BA in Economics, he holds FINRA Series 6, 7, 24, 31, 63 and 65 Securities Licenses, and he is Insurance Licensed in Kansas and Missouri. Randy has served on the Smith Moore Board of Directors since 2014.

Dan Moran | Director of IT

Dan Moran

Director of IT

Dan Moran joined Smith Moore in April of 2008, bringing with him more than 12 years of experience in IT for the financial services industry. Dan has extensive knowledge of network design, Citrix applications for desktop visualization, integrated Windows Operating systems, and multiple antivirus programs.

Dan oversees the development and implementation of the firm’s enterprise technologies, as well as continual evaluation of new technologies for the firm. He also manages the firm’s hardware inventory, installation, and maintenance programs. Under his direction, Smith Moore has earned top ratings in network design, disaster preparedness, and cyber breach prevention from external auditors and independent consultants. With over 20 years of experience, Dan excels at managing the integration of hardware, software, and network structure. He also has a keen awareness of cyber security threats and the policies and procedures necessary to protect the firm, its clients, and its employees. In addition to serving the Executive Committee, Dan is an active member of FS-ISAC Broker Dealer Council, multiple SIFMA groups, and various advisory boards.

Jaret Perryman | Chief Compliance Officer

Jaret Perryman is the Chief Compliance Officer of Smith Moore.  He joined the Firm in 2019 and assumed the role of CCO in 2022. He is responsible for overseeing our compliance department and ensuring that we are in compliance with all securities laws and regulations. Jaret holds the series 4, 7, 24, 28, 53, 63 & 66 FINRA licenses.

Jaret is a graduate of the University of Kansas with a BA in Political Science. He lives in Clayton with his wife and 3 sons. Outside of work, Jaret enjoys basketball, cycling, anything outdoors and being with family and friends.

Barbara Kraft joined Smith Moore in 2000 as Operations Manager. With over 35 years of Financial Services Clearing Operations Management experience, Barbara brings vast experience and knowledge to every aspect of Smith Moore operations. Her keen understanding of margin requirements and calculations, tax reporting, cost basis, and managed account administration – as well as extensive regulatory exam experience – make Barbara an integral member. Barbara currently holds the Series 99 Securities License.

Amy Tognozzi | Chief Financial Officer

Amy Tognozzi

Chief Financial Officer

Amy Tognozzi is responsible for overall financial management and related governance of the firm and oversees the controllership, financial and regulatory reporting, human resources and insurance risk functions. She is one of seven members on the firm’s Executive Committee that sets the strategic direction for Smith Moore and works closely with the Board of Directors on leading initiatives.

She has over 20 years of financial management experience. Prior to joining Smith Moore in 2015, she held senior leadership roles in corporate finance at MasterCard and Monsanto. She was also an external auditor early in her career.

Amy is a CPA and obtained her BS degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting from San Diego State University. She holds the Series 7, 24, 27 and 66 licenses.

Executive Vice President

Juli Niemann has worked in the financial services industry for nearly 50 years, and her extensive experience in this industry has given her the perspective and skill to manage the risk in investing. It’s Juli’s task to know and understand her clients’ unique needs and concerns, to monitor changing circumstances, and to build and maintain a portfolio to satisfy their objectives.

Juli graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fontbonne College, and from the University of Missouri-St. Louis with an MBA in Finance. As a Chartered Financial Analyst, she is a current member and former president of the CFA Institute in St. Louis.
